Old Forge Charity Concert

The Old Forge, Wicklow Town 8:00 pm

The Maguires are celebrating the success of their recent US tour with a charity event to raise funds for three local charities which are dear to our hearts – Wicklow Cancer Support, Wicklow Tidy Towns and Wicklow Regatta Festival.  Taking place in The Old Forge, Wicklow Town on Friday 8 September 2017 @ 8pm, the evening will consist of a performance by The Maguires followed by music and dancing with DJ Shane Doyle on the decks.  All funds raised by the event will be split evenly between the three charities, so please come and support these three great causes.  Here’s a little background on the three beneficiary charities and why we’ve chosen them:

Wicklow Cancer Support

Wicklow Cancer Support has been providing essential services to cancer sufferers and their families for many years in Wicklow Town and the surrounding areas.  The Maguires have many personal friends involved in the running of this invaluable community service and we are always delighted to help out at their fundraising events.  For once though, we thought we’d take the initiative and raise some funds without the committee having to do anything…they have enough to do!  Wicklow Cancer Support services are provided free of charge and they include:
-‘Drop-In’ Support and Information centre, which is open three days a week and has disabled access. Our volunteers are there to offer a sympathetic ear in total confidentiality.
-Transport to and from hospital appointments.
-Complimentary therapies can be arranged, these include; yoga and acupuncture etc.
-Courses on coping with cancer and self help.
-Get together evenings.
-Confidential telephone support is also available.
-One-To-One counselling is available by appointment. Counselling is provided by qualified and professional counsellors.
– A comprehensive library of books, and pamphlets on issues related to cancer and up-to-date information is provided on cancer diagnosis and treatment.
– Home help.
– If cancer patients cannot come to the Centre our volunteers will visit them at home or in hospital when requested.
– Information evenings on various types of cancer.

Wicklow Tidy Towns

Wicklow Tidy Towns is a voluntary group who aim to keep Wicklow Town clean and tidy for all who live and visit the area.  They plant and maintain the many fabulous flowerbeds at key sites around the town including the Mall, Fitzwilliam Square, Bachelors Walk, Convent Road, and many others.  In 2017, the team of volunteers worked tirelessly to paint and decorate the facades of vacant buildings on the main street and at the upper end of the town, brightening up the areas no end.  The work of the Tidy Towns team ensures that our pretty town is presented in the best possible light to visitors and residents alike.

Wicklow Regatta Festival

In 2017, Wicklow Regatta Festival was presented for the 139th time.  However, it was not certain that the festival would run this year as the outgoing committee had stepped down after many years of dedicated service, and the new committee was only appointed 5 weeks before the festival began.  Thanks to a mammoth effort by the committee and volunteers in the short time available to them, the festival ran smoothly and this great tradition continued unbroken.  The Maguires have enjoyed the Regatta for many years and we are delighted that the new committee took up the reins.  We’d like to show our appreciation for their efforts by raising some much needed funds for their 2018 campaign.  The new committee has great plans to build on the success of this year’s festival and we wish them every success.  “See you at the Regatta!”
